A man-made city that took 3 years to carve from unexplored land in 1956. The distinctive project, with its motif of the fuselage of a plane, was participated in by the urbanologist Lucio Costa and architect Oscar Niemeyer. In 1960, the capital was relocated from Rio di Janeiro; Brasilia was registered as a world heritage site in 1987.
